NO

TCC and young activist members from St Joseph's Catholic & Anglican School have launched their #NoHungryLearners campaign that seeks to alleviate the burden of school meal debt.

HUNGRY

Article 27 of the UNCRC says that children and young people should be able to live in a way that helps them reach their full physical, mental, spiritual, moral, and social potential. For this to happen, they should have access to adequate food and housing.

LEARNERS

In line with the UNCRC rights as stated, we are campaigning to stop this happening and to ensure all children are fed at school - and to eradicate the stigma that such situations present.

child poverty summit - swansea

In November 2023, we were invited to present our campaign and accompanying video at the National Child Poverty Summit in Swansea.

The event was attended by a large variety of community and charity groups and power holders, including the Children's Commissioner for Wales - Rocio Cifuentes.

#nohungrylearners campaign raised in senedd

The Senedd Petitions Committee discussed and thanked the work done by TCC Alliance pupils of St. Joseph's School for their campaign, highlighting the pressures around the issue of school hunger as a barrier to learning. You can watch the video below.

The evidence submitted by the young leaders resulted in a promise to write to the Cabinet Secretary for Education to share the evidence. We are incredibly proud of the young leaders, and it is an honour to have worked with them to highlight this issue. It will be interesting to hear the Cabinet Secretary for Education's response.
