Residential community organising training

Our next intensive residential training is scheduled for 3rd-4th November 2023 at Noddfa, Penmaenmawr.

Residential Training

TCC regularly runs community organising training, designed to challenge participants to become more active in public life. The intensive training goes deeper into all of the topics covered in learning sessions and the half-day intro to community organising, and is a great opportunity to develop your relationship with other dedicated community leaders. This is the most in-depth and challenging of the trainings we do, and the quality of your experience depends on you being fully-engaged and willing to embrace the relational aspect of community organising with diverse community leaders. It is informative, fun, challenging.

The intensive residential training runs from 5pm on a Friday, until 5pm the next day. People are expected to arrive between 5-6pm, for a 6pm start on the Friday. There is opportunity for socializing from 9pm and training the next day starts at 9am. Staying overnight is optional but we do encourage people to stay as part of what makes the training so valuable is having the space to reflect on things away from your usual day-to-day environment.

For people with caring responsibilities, we can support you to make the necessary childcare or respite arrangements.

Sessions are interactive and cover the key principles, values and skills of community organising, including: relational meetings, building power, working with decision makers, and developing public relationships. We also touch upon strategic non-violence, and how this can work with other methods of agitating for social change.

Throughout the training we ask participants to reflect on their own roles in public life, and to share their experiences of working in community.  This could be as a student, faith leader, or community group member.  We try and involve a wide range of people in the training, so that we get a breadth of experience, and there is an opportunity for participants to build relationships with people they might not usually meet.

Our residential training places are available free to TCC member groups, or at £100 for individuals, £200 for those from charitable organisations, and £300 for business representatives.  This includes all training, meals, and accommodation. Young people are welcome to attend, or we can organise courses specifically for children and young people.

Make sure you are signed up to our mailing list to receive notification of training when bookings open.
