Yasmin Sofi, Town of Sanctuary Trainer
Yasmin Sofi, a Syrian refugee in Wrexham. volunteering as Voices Ambassador with British Red Cross and trainer with Wrexham Town of
Sanctuary group from 2018 till now. Advocating the rights of refugees and asylum seekers. As a confident public speaker, I have
participated in many public awareness events including:
Storyhouse Theatre in Chester – presenting an account of my family’s difficulties in reaching a safe place in the United Kingdom.
Welsh Senedd in Cardiff in 2019 – reflecting on my experience of being a refugee in Wales.
Wrexham Town of Sanctuary – delivering three training sessions to professionals about how to welcome refugees and asylum seekers and ensure that service delivery meets their needs.
During my successful campaign to reunify my family, I have produced press releases covering my personal story and have campaigned tirelessly to make the Welsh Government, the Home Office and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees aware of my specific circumstances and the underlying issues.
